If you want to learn as much as you can about fly fishing, try our Academy of Fly Fishing. We gear the academy to your fly fishing skill level so that we can personalize your learning and help you become a confident and competent fisher. It's an intensive two days of instruction and fishing where your classroom is a renowned fly fishing destination that rests on the banks of The Lake Fork of the Gunnison.
For $445 per person, the Academy includes two days of comprehensive instruction, with material, that covers at least the following minimum topics. (Exact curriculm is based on your skill level.)
Fly casting techniques
Equipment selection and setup
Knots and rigs
Stream entomology and fly selection
Water reading
Presentation
Mending
How to play, land, setup, and release
Academy size is limited to 2 so that you receive the maximum amount of instructor attention. We spend as much time on the water as possible so that you truly understand and feel accomplished at the sport of fly fishing. Our day is only over when you say it is!
Academy fees cover all equipment needed including rods, reels, waders, and a minimum set of flies and leaders. Two days of continental breakfasts and streamside lunches are also included, as is transportation from your lodging to the day's activities.
Academy fees do not include a valid Colorado fishing license, which you must have and can get at the store before your trip. Instructor gratuity (which is discretionary) is also not included in the fee, but it averages about 25 percent.

Reservations and Cancellations
If you want to reserve an academy, please call us at 970-944-2526 or email us at info@lakecitysportsman.com. We require credit cards for reservations and immediately charge you for 50 percent of the academy. The other 50 percent is charged immediately after the academy.
Cancel at least 14 days in advance and your fee is fully refunded. After that, the 50 percent up-front charge is NOT refunded. If you do not show up for your academy and do not communicate with our staff, no refund is provided.
The Acadmey of Fly Fishing offers an optional accomodation package at the finest Lake City facitliies. Lodging is clean, comfortable, and cozy and all facilities offer optional upgrades at additional cost. Call us for more information.
