If you want to learn as much as you can about fly fishing, try our Academy of Fly Fishing. We gear the academy to your fly fishing skill level so that we can personalize your learning and help you become a confident and competent fisher. It's an intensive two days of instruction and fishing where your classroom is a renowned fly fishing destination that rests on the banks of The Lake Fork of the Gunnison.
For $485 per person, the Academy includes two days of comprehensive instruction, with material, that covers at least the following minimum topics. (Exact curriculm is based on your skill level.)
● Fly casting techniques
● Equipment selection and setup
● Knots and rigs
● Stream entomology and fly selection
● Water reading
● Presentation
● Mending
● How to play, land, and release
Academy size is limited to two so that you receive the maximum amount of instructor attention. We spend as much time on the water as possible so that you truly understand and feel accomplished at the sport of fly fishing. Our day is only over when you say it is!
Academy fees cover all equipment needed including rods, reels, waders, and a minimum set of flies and leaders. Two days of continental breakfasts and streamside lunches are also included, as is transportation from your lodging to the day's activities.
Academy fees do not include a valid Colorado fishing license, which you must have and can get at the store before your trip. Instructor gratuity (which is discretionary) is also not included in the fee, but it averages about 25 percent.

Optional Lodging
You have the flexibility to extend the Academy so that you and your family can obtain more instruction, or simply hike, fish, ride, whatever you like. You also have the option to include lodging. We work with a number of different facilities and can help you select the best place for you to stay.
Part or all of this operation is conducted on public lands under special permit from the US Bureau of Land Management & US Forest Service. Outfitter #1920 and Permit # CO16003-06004.
