The Sportsman Outdoors & Fly Shop was established in the same location in 1955. A couple from Texas built the store and raised their family in Lake City. The store itself has had several owners in the past 55 years, but it's always been an outdoor and fishing oriented business. Various owners have expanded the building and the services, culminating with us (Tony & Kay Tarasewicz) when we bought the store in 1998.
We bought the store because we fell in love with Lake City and felt it would be a good place to raise our son, Nicolas. Nicolas was all of six months old when we came to Lake City, and has been fishing the area waters with us since he could be put in a backpack.
We have updated the store, both inside and out. We expanded the services to include 4x4 tours, guided hiking trips, rentals, mountain bikes, and most importantly, we've greatly enhanced the fly fishing shop and services. We try hard to stock quality products that will last years, if not a life-time, for reasonable prices.
We're proud of our guides and fly fishing trips, hiking trips, and 4x4 tours. The trips are ALL INCLUSIVE, meaning equipment and supplies are included in the price, and the gear itself is high-quality from name-brand companies. Trips always include FRIENDLY and EXPERIENCED guides who bring along everything you need for a fun and comfortable trip.
The Sportsman is truly a family-run business operated by friendly folks whom we appreciate and cherish. They're our employess, but they're our friends as well.

June, July, August: 7 am to 7 pm SEVEN days a week
September through December: 9 am to 6 pm SEVEN days a week
Jan through April: 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday
Lake City is paradise. We are so lucky to live and work in one of the most beautiful, mountain communities in the world with pristine rivers and great opportunities for winter fun. Thus, we can't find a good reason to really leave. Okay, so maybe for family matters and to fish saltwater in the winter, but most of the time, we're here! When we're not, we're usually somewhere pretty remote without email, but you can still try to contact us anytime. Oh, and once in a awhile we play hooky to fish or ski, so leave a message, we'll call you back!
