Meet the Guides
Local knowledge, a love for the water, and a whole lot of Lake City spirit. Meet the guides who make the Sportsman what it is.
Peter Breeden
Keith Maples
Keith has been a fly fishing guide since he was 17. He cut his teeth on the Lower Mountain Fork River in Oklahoma, where he hunted for picky tailwater rainbows and browns. He enjoys chasing fish anywhere in the world from the salt, to the jungle, and all across the west. Keith enjoys guiding all the water the Gunnison valley has to offer. Whether it’s a small high country stream, remote alpine lake, or any of the big rivers in the area, Keith is always ready to chase some fish!
Morgan Prater
Hey y’all! My name is Morgan Prater. Most people call me Mo. I grew up as a multi sport athlete and love to compete. That took me through college as I got a full ride scholarship to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith where I played volleyball for five years. Shortly after I graduated I started dating my now husband Trey Prater, who got me hooked on the sport of fishing. Ive always loved the outdoors and being surrounded by nature so fishing quickly became a huge part of my life. So much so that my husband and I quit our 9 to 5 jobs in 2015 to pursue a career in the fishing industry. We downsized by selling a lot of our stuff, bought an RV, and moved our home base to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Beavers Bend Fly Shop gave us both an opportunity to start guiding fly fishing trips in 2016 and we are still full time guides for them to this day. Our time there has blessed me with the opportunity to learn from some of the best guides/anglers in the country and allowed me to become the guide and fisherwoman I am today. We have been fly fishing Colorado since 2016 and starting in 2024 guiding part time for the Sportsman Fly shop in Lake City. I truly enjoy sharing this passion with other people and doing my best to get them “hooked” on the sport. When I’m not guiding or fishing for myself, you can find me hiking with my pups, foraging for mushrooms, and taking pictures of nature.
Trey Prater
Trey is a patient and passionate guide who takes pride in his ability to guide and teach both experienced and new fly fisherman. He’s been an avid outdoorsman since childhood and started guiding fly fishing trips full time in 2016.
